So, I finally decided to request a new call sign that's reflective of the southeast region (Region 4). I realized I was causing some confusion on the local repeaters along with folks I would speak with when asked about my former call sign (KB3LLE), since Region 3 is Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware. Not a necessity, I know, but it minimizes the confusion during intros--especially on the repeaters. Everyone's first reaction
(and rightly so) is if I'm running mobile and passing through, running on EchoLink, or just moved into the area (been back in Georgia now for 5 years).
Besides, I'd hope the next new ham in Region 3 can enjoy my ol' call sign. It sure was a catchy call sign. Sorry, I just can't justify paying for a vanity call sign, though I'd consider N9KON (taken), N1KON (taken) or K8NON (available)...sorry photography is my other hobby, so I just can't help myself. I think when the time comes for me to upgrade to the Amateur Class License, I'll treat myself to a cool call sign. We'll see....
